The Picture Ages But You Stay Forever Young.

It’s amazing what we’re willing to trade for a little bit of lost youth.  This article discusses the psychological cost of using Botox.

In a nutshell, because Botox freezes the facial muscles, it makes it impossible for others to perceive your micro expressions.  As a result, people have a difficult time forming emotional connections with you.

But that’s just half the problem.  Most people don’t realize it, but the connection between our body language and emotions goes both ways.  Suppressing the full range of emotional expression in the face also makes it difficult to feel the full range of emotions.  Botox actually inhibits your ability to empathize with other people.

I can understand why women would go for Botox treatments.  We live in a society that is obsessed with youth.  With just a few little shots, you really can look years younger.  It’s the same reason men go for hair plugs, even though nobody ever looks good with them.

What’s the use of looking younger, though, if you just look like a younger robot?  Even worse, what’s the use of looking younger if the trade off is that you lose your soul.  It’s like the Picture of Dorian Gray.
